Salerno offers a wide range of sporting and extra-curricular opportunities, encouraging students to participate, develop new skills and enjoy being part of school life.

Sport

Hockey

Salerno has a very active hockey programme and welcomes players of all levels. Teams are entered in First Year, Second Year, Under 16 and Senior competitions.

Training
First Years train every Friday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm in Dangan. Buses bring students to Dangan after school. Students and parents are responsible for arranging transport home after training.

Training is arranged with the relevant coaches once the panels have been assembled.

Soccer

Salerno has a thriving soccer programme across several age groups. The school competes in the A divisions and has won multiple Connacht and All-Ireland titles in recent years.

Training
Teams train at Salthill Devon’s pitch in Drom or at St Enda’s throughout the season.

Gaelic Football

Salerno fields teams at Under 14, Under 16 and Under 20 levels. The programme has enjoyed considerable success in Galway and Connacht competitions.

Training
Training takes place between the Prairie at Salthill Knocknacarra GAA and St Enda’s pitches.
Competitions
Minor and Junior teams compete in a Galway city league format. Senior teams compete against schools from across County Galway.
Recent achievement
The Junior team won the 2026 Connacht final and qualified for the All-Ireland final.

Handball

Handball is open to students of all experience levels and takes place each week in Salthill Handball Alley.

Basketball

Students with a Golf Ireland handicap may represent the school at Galway, Connacht and national levels.

Clubs & Activities

Board Buddies

This initiative facilitates First year students, and others, who may wish to socialise in a quiet supportive environment during lunch time. Board and card games are available and small group interaction is supported.

Maths Club

This group meets during lunch time and prepares for national and international maths quizzes under the guidance of the maths department. Students from all year groups are welcome and participation in age appropriate competitions is encouraged.

Choir

The choir provides musical performances for school events including the opening school Mass, Christmas carol service, Salerno Stars and Leaving Certificate graduation. Students also enjoy learning a wide mixture of musical genres for fun.

School Ethos Group

Under the guidance of a teacher this group prepares and delivers the daily prayer, assists in preparation of the Sacred Space and supports the preparations for liturgical events throughout the school year.
