Ethos
For more than sixty years, Salerno Secondary School has been inspiring young women to grow in confidence, knowledge and character.
Our Ethos
Nurturing Confident, Compassionate Young Women
For more than sixty years, our school has been guided by the educational philosophy of Saint Claudine Thévenet and the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, whose vision continues to inspire every aspect of school life. Their belief that education should nurture the whole person remains at the heart of everything we do.
As a proud member of the Le Chéile Schools Trust, we seek to provide an education that balances academic excellence with personal growth, wellbeing, creativity and service to others. We encourage every student to become a confident learner, a compassionate friend and a responsible member of society.
Every Student Matters
We recognise that every young person is unique.
Each student brings her own talents, interests and aspirations to Salerno, and our role is to help her flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. We encourage curiosity, resilience and independent thinking while providing the support and encouragement needed to help every student achieve her personal best.
Learning Together
Ours is a school community built on kindness, respect and inclusion.
We value every member of our community and believe that every voice deserves to be heard. Students are encouraged to participate fully in school life, to respect one another's backgrounds, beliefs and experiences, and to contribute positively to the welcoming atmosphere that makes Salerno such a special place to learn.
Growing Beyond the Classroom
Education at Salerno extends well beyond examinations.
Through sport, music, the arts, leadership opportunities, faith development, wellbeing programmes and community involvement, students are encouraged to develop the confidence, character and life skills that will serve them long after they leave our classrooms.
We believe these experiences are every bit as important as academic achievement in preparing young people for the future.
Inspired by Our Heritage
Since the Sisters of Jesus and Mary first established education in Salthill, generations of students have benefited from a tradition built on compassion, excellence and hope.
That tradition continues today through our commitment to:
fostering holistic development
encouraging personal growth and self-worth
promoting inclusiveness and full participation
respecting the diversity of every individual
building a caring, just and supportive school community
inspiring each student to become the very best version of herself
Looking to the Future
While our school continues to evolve to meet the needs of a changing world, the values that define Salerno remain constant.
We are committed to providing an education that challenges minds, nurtures character and empowers young women to make a positive contribution to their families, their communities and the wider world.
At Salerno, every student is encouraged to learn with confidence, lead with compassion and leave with the knowledge, skills and values to shape a brighter future.
